Giving Thanks

Tomorrow as we travel over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house (not really), and as I prove once again that my eyes ARE bigger than my stomach I am going to take a moment and give thanks for all that I am blessed with. My family, my health, my home, good friends and food in my belly are all things that I take for granted many times. This holiday season especially, there are so many struggling with just the basics. I give thanks to GOD for blessing me and mine.

Here's hoping you all have a blessed and safe Thanksgiving. I am taking a break from WHITE WEDNESDAY this week but I'll be back next Wednesday with a Christmas installment. See you then...

Happy Thanksgiving!

WHITE WEDNESDAY

Once again, it's WHITE WEDNESDAY... Kathleen at FADED CHARM is the brainchild behind this once~a~week~white~fest and I love being a part of it. There's just one thing you see... I am tapped out. There I said it. I am scrounging for new WHITES around the land of Sweet Pea. I don't have the Christmas spirit yet so can't help you there. I have new and fabulous plans for the garden cottage but that is a ways off as I have three shows on the horizon~~in fact the first starts Friday (see sidebar). This is a good thing as it is forcing me to stretch my imagination a bit, but I admit I am struggling. I had two snotty~nosed toddlers sneezing in my face all day to boot so I am trying to kill the germs with merlot as I type.

Anyway, this week I am cheating. I am going to another source for the WHITE fix we all crave... None other than ELIZABETH HOUSE... As a shop owner, I used to pour over her early posts and I am positive she is one of the inspirations for my starting a blog of my own. I hope she doesn't mind that I am showing some random photos of hers~~I give all credit to her and her enormous talent behind the lens. It was a highlight of the Spring 2009 blogger party to meet her in person. If you are reading this Elizabeth~~love love your style...

A photo from the loo in her apartment...

Could you die over this photo from her shop?

Taken by Elizabeth while at a flea market.

Do you remember the craze she started with these paper walls in her shop?

Happy WHITE WEDNESDAY!!

Can you imagine a job where you traveled the globe in search of unique, funky and fabulous stuff for Anthropologie? Well, Keith Johnson can and does, and you can watch him every Wednesday night at 10pm EST on the Sundance Channel on Man Shops Globe. I got inspired to pay a visit to my local Anthropologie and see what Keith had found...

Le Girls

Vintage dress forms are among my favorite things. I have three fabulous forms that I refer to as my "girls". Allow me to introduce you...

Meet Office Girl... She lives in my studio and proofreads all my blog posts and keeps me company as I weave my way through all my fav blogs.

Next is Sleepy Time Girl. She watches over me as I sleep thus she lives in the master boudoir. She is a sectioned beauty and came to me wearing a vintage blouse that is very fragile and tattered and an old locket pin. She weighs a ton and has a very funky cage base.

And finally, please meet Guardian Angel Girl. She lives in our dining room. She got her wings from an antique shop in Tennessee that were part of a vintage costume. Don't tell the others but she is my favorite...

WHITE WEDNESDAY

Pardon me as I slide in under the radar tonight for WHITE WEDNESDAY... Apparently my sons think I am superwoman or at least super grannie... Wednesday is a tricky day for me anyway to post as it is my day to watch my grandson... I usually post late as I have him from 7am til nearly 6pm and I am pooped when he leaves. Occasionally however, my granddaughter needs tending on the same day and so I pull a two~fer as was the case today... I literally just got off the clock so to speak...Yikes it was so much easier when I was 22 and had a newborn and a toddler... I digress...

My WHITE WEDNESDAY post for this week showcases my three glorious antique French nightgowns modeled by le girls... They don't normally wear these, they each have their own ensembles. Next post I promise... I wear these beauties in fact... I wear them as dresses, with leggings, with boots, whatever strikes my mood. I got my first one from Linda at Willow Nest and wore it at Spring Marburger with riding boots and leggings. The Magnolia Pearl girls made a beeline for Linda's booth and all bought one after that I am told... I get lots of comments like, "Are you going to bed, you have on your nightgown?" I just smile and say "Well yes it a nightgown and no I am not going to bed." I love them and encourage you to seek out your own, you'll be enchanted I promise...

I Can't Sell It All...

So, one of the biggest perks of being an antiques dealer is finding and keeping fabulous stuff for yourself. Then there is the trade~up benefit as well... You know, when you find something you like a "little" better than something you already have... I call it the rotation factor. Well, as always when I'm in Texas doing the Marburger show I treat myself to some fabulosities cause that's the mecca of such. Here's what I found...

I saw this in my friend Terri's booth (Garden Worthy) and hadn't decided whether to keep it or sell it. By the time we got home it had crossed into the keep column. Then it occurred to me how fab it would be for my growing necklace collection...

This spoke to me immmediately but I resisted. I can't believe it didn't sell. This awesome old "in memorium" piece was in my pal TOT's booth (Time Worn Interiors) and haunted me, if you will, until I had to strike up a deal for it. I'm sure my children will think it creepy if they ever read it but I adore it and am happy that it is now in my possession. Notice all the post-mortem references... Purely accidental...

What, another clock you say? It's an addiction I will cop to all day. This one came from my pal TOT's booth...

I found this little mirror in Warrenton. The patina is off the chain and I encourage you to click on this pic to enlarge and get the full effect.

I also found this cute little ironstone plate that has turned just the right shade of brown in Warrenton along with this wasp nest. Look at the pattern the egg sacks make on it. The seller assured me they are all dead, and so far so good...

I adore this ironstone lid in just the right mottled crazed condition...

I love funky junk. This old iron speaker spoke to me immediately. Isn't it the coolest?

I have looked high and low for a sugar bowl with the lid. Almost impossible to find, ya know? So imagine my delight when I found this one in TOT's booth in brown transferware...

This little wire and metal piece came from Donna and Franklin's booth at Marburger. I am using it cloche~style over a mini white punkin on a fab silver tray in my dining room...

WHITE WEDNESDAY~~BABY BOO LOVE

I adore white pumpkins... They only recently became available here in FL... I loaded up on these baby boo punkins when I saw them at my local grocery store... They are here and there among my treasures... Happy White Wednesday....
